PVM1870SMSS - GE - PVM1870SMSS - Profile Spacemaker XL1800 Stainless Steel Mic - 11157 Review

I purchased GE Profile suite series made in Aug of 2007,one item being the GE Profile 1.8 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven Model PVM1870SMSS.It has been in use about 2 1/2 years and suddenly stopped working i.e. heating.Nothing heats in the microwave oven now. Everything else works fine.

I called Customer Service as this should be under warranty. The Profile line is their "top of the line" product and at the price it is, should definitely last longer than 2 1/2 years. It seems like the magnetron tube has gone out from what I am reading. The part is covered under warranty, but I will have to pay labor. GE wants to charge $100 to send out a service tech plus labor.

Very disappointed that this high end appliance has not lasted very long. Did not have excessive use as I have a household of 1. Isn't something being done about this. GE shouldn't have so many complaints regarding magnetron tubes. They should last longer than 2 1/2 years! I see hundreds of complaints here regarding same issue.

I has an old Emerson counter top that laster 14+ years.I will not buy GE anymore and will need to file an official complaint.

This microwave looks good, but as a microwave that cannot generate microwave, it is useless.

I had used several microwave stoves before, some of them around $50, some around $100, but none of them stopped working within 3 yrs--except this expensive one. We called GE customer service, they told me the magnetron tube was broken, and they also told me this happens because, statistically, the failure rate of this magnetron tube is 3-4 percent. I don't need to be a magnetron-tube engineer to understand this rate. As a regular customer, I just know this failure rate is too high to be accepted.

If GE continues to make this kind of products, it will become another GM soon, and they can only depend on the government bailout to survive.

We had a GE over-the-range microwave, which worked fine until the cheap plastic door handle cracked and broke.This was a serious problem, because you can't open the door when the handle breaks off.When we tried to replace the handle, we were told you can't just replace it, you have to replace the entire door assembly, which cost hundreds of dollars and requires a service call.So we bought a new microwave.The sales person persuaded us to get another GE and told us that our door handle problem was a fluke.Lo and behold, after only a few months, this door handle broke, too!Fortunately, this one is still under warranty, but it makes you wonder a) if the quality control is slipshod and b) if they insist on using a cheap, brittle plastic for the handle, why they can't design it to replace the el cheapo part without buying an entire new door.

We got this as part of the Profile set to match our range/oven.It has some great features, like a push display, and a boost feature to REALLY get some air OUT!Love that.But when I went to push the button for the vent, the whole button panel behind the stainless steel moved back- I broke something.The repair guy just left after telling me I had broken the processor assembly which costs $500+ to replace, and then there's labor.So we're looking at $750 to get a new one?I don't think so.I'll just get a different stainless steel microwave with better reviews!

Frigidaire Over The Range Microwave - White Review

Wife wanted an over the range microwave but we were space limited by the size of the cabinet above the range and that's the plus for this unit, it is not too tall. So if that's your deciding criteria, it's okay.

The minuses: the fan is noisy as is the microwave when it's on. The door sounds cheap when it's closed. Only one light setting, no auto off on the fan and limited cooking features. Yes it works but if size is not a factor look elsewhere.

Sharp R-1520LK Over The Range Microwave Review

We had the lower model of R-1520 and we really liked it. Because of an accident we had to replace it (I didn't do it. I wasn't even home). We have a certain look in our kitchen and we like a microwave that has the control panel hidden. (Most controls look cheap and flimsy.) Although this model is not the highest rated out there it still does everything we need it to do. All I can see that it's missing is a center rack so you can place two items inside at once. I installed it by myself and found the instructions to be easy to understand and the installation simple. It is a bit heavy so you may need some help lifting it. My doctor says I should regain full use of my legs when my back is out of traction. (Just kidding.) If you are looking for a good-looking, well built, easy to operate, nice featured, easy to install microwave I say this is a good choice.

Maytag : Over-The-Range Microwave Oven Review

I purchased this microwave just over a month ago from one of the larger home improvement stores.My condo is smallish, so I decided to go with this less expensive model.It worked fine the first few times I used it, but after running it for more than 4 minutes at a time, it would shut off completely.The display would not even light up.The power would eventually return after about a half hour or so.

As it is still covered under the manufacturer's warranty, I was able to arrange for free service through Maytag's website.The technician just left and told me that the problem was "poor design."Apparently, there isn't enough cooling for some of the internal parts when the microwave is being run for more than a few minutes.To remedy the situation, he suggested that whenever I had the oven on for an "extended" amount of time, I should turn the vent fan on high so that the internal parts can remain cool.The technician said that this was a problem with many brands of over the range microwaves in this price range including LG, Kenmore, etc.He did say that GE was likely the best brand to buy.

As I spent a significant amount of money and effort between the initial purchase and having it installed, I will keep the oven and just remember to run it with the vent fan on.It works fine otherwise.

Update: 1 Year Later

After the initial service call, the original problem of the microwave overheating and shutting off after about 4 minutes of use continued regardless of whether or not the fan was turned on.

Just before the 1 year warranty expired, I decided to try and have it serviced one more time.The service person determined that the problem was improper installation.I helped him pull down the microwave and then he was able to move the fan housing cover into the proper position for external venting, the instructions of which were actually printed on a sticker right next to the housing cover.Go figure!

I'm upgrading my rating on this because the microwave oven has been working perfectly since then.I can recommend it without reservation, but just make sure it's installed correctly.

This microwave was supplied with our new house and never worked from day one.Maytag sent a repairman out to fix the unit but a part had to be ordered.That was 5 weeks ago and Maytag told me today that it will be 6 more weeks before the part is available.The reason they gave was the recent earthquakes in China.Wouldn't you think they could be more inventive than that excuse?Bottom line is Maytag told me the unit has a repair only warranty and they will not replace it.I am amazed at Maytag's flippant attitude about me as a customer.The Maytag refrigerator had to be repaired as well.

LG Microwave Over The Range With Pull Up Door, 2.2 Cu Ft - Stainless Steel Review

This microwave has some interesting feature such as the door and the oscillating tray.

However, it is totally overatedon its venting capacity. In fact the specs on venting are an exageration.

Also the electronic touch control pad failed after about a year.Finally the touch control pad locked itself ( child lock activated spontaneously!!!) and is now totally unresponsive.Tried the steps in the instruction manual to deactivate the child lock --no luck.The microwave is now unusable!!

The product arrived perfectly shipped and timely, no complaints.The microwave itself is very nice, I like the strengths of the fan and the light for the over the stove use.The only problem I had was the instructions were really vague on mounting the back panel.It's really difficult to do the measurements and get the unit to line up correctly, and if you're like me, installing into mostly sheetrock, you can't really go back and correct a hole by a quarter of an inch without repairing the old hole and trying again.Quite frustrating, and confusing, because the instructions for aligning the top were perfect.I just put the layout up, marked and cut my holes, no problem.I highly recommend getting a piece of cardboard and making screw holes first, as a template before you install.My final project ended up tilting slightly downward, but not enough to make the unit unusable or unsafe.The product, packaging, and shipping all get five stars, but the vague (and important!) instructions, maybe a three.

Also, MAKE SURE you have at least one stud above your oven before you install.It doesn't matter where, and two are actually recommended, but with the three supporting bolts at the top, and the mounting bracket attached to at least one stud, I had no problems.

It's a great price, but take your time installing!Good luck!

I bought this on Amazon to replace a Sharp microwave, which has served me well for several years. Based on the price, compared to other with similar features, this unit is the least expensive. I was also impressed with the comprehensive directions for installation. I am closer to being Tim (the toolman) Taylor than a professional at home improvements, so I followed the instructions with precision. The results were outstanding. Not only does it look GREAT where my old stove hood used to be, it passed my "popcorn" test, of which, I am particular. No scotching, full bag, satisfying and an extra plus, while I am beaming over my accomplishment, the beep sounds indicating the popcorn was finished, the display read "Enjoy". Am I ever! I have in my "digital locker",courtesy of Amazon, my own .pdf manual. What a great investment in money for the microwave and the time for installation of the unit.

No cons, but could have used some help with installing, as the manual recommends 2 people install, but I did manage nicely by myself. I would suggest an additional set of hands for final insertion, once preparations are complete. I have only owned this for a day, but, I wanted to tell my tale to give others an incentive, if they are on the edge, to jump at this opprotunity to snazz up the kitchen in a big way and for little out of pocket.

Panasonic wants like $300 for a comparable unit. I am pleased to pay 1/2 as much and get a quality unit such as this. You can even get this for $25 off before January 31st, free shipping (this dude is HEAVY!) and no tax, do the math, it is a steal!

Frigidaire FPMV189KF 1.8 Cu. Ft. OTR Microwave - 1000 Watts, Side Controls Review

A decent microwave, looks nice, spacious, which also makes it larger.

Things that work well:

Cooks very evenly
offers alot of space (possibly unnecessary space)
Quick start buttons
Soft start and quiet when it operates, which is very nice.
Lights are bright.
Installation was easy and sensible
Things that dont:

Clock is kind of dim. Hard to see at even reasonable distances during the day. Also the numbers are not centered in the LED space, looks off.

You can not program the micro to cook when the timer is operating. This is really uncommon, most microwaves offer this, so keep it mind. Basically the Micro becomes a giant kitchen timer and nothing more when you use the timer feature. Terrible design if you ask me.

Alot of "convenience" buttons that quite honestly are not very convenient. Makes you have to refer to the manual alot to remember what exactly they do and removes control from the user often overcooking the food.

Sticks out from the cabinet face a little more than most Micro ovens, and the handle is comfortable but obtrusive.

I personally only use a MIcro for basic cooking and reheating, this one is a little more than I would have ever needed as far as features go. I bought it mainly to match off with the range, apparently Frigidaire uses a coating on the certain SS appliance (professional and Gallery) it is has a different look than their regular (non-coated) SS models. Overall I am satisfied with it, but if matching is not your important, go for something else at this price point. You will probably get convection and the logic for operating the machine will probably make more sense.

Sharp 950-Watt 1-2/5-Cubic-Foot Over-the-Range Microwaves Review

Well I bought this didnt want to spend too much on a replacement and it works okay but its cheap construction and may not fit in existing holes so you may have to redrill new holes to mount it after using it about 4 months the heat from the stove warped the door opening button so I have to call they came out and did fix it but for about another $100 could of had a much better model GE or something like that if you need a cheap replacement its okay but I would not rebuy I would spend more....
