GE PVM1870DMBB Profile SpacemakerR 1.8 Cu. Ft. XL1800 Microwave Ovena Review

GE PVM1870DMBB Profile SpacemakerR 1.8 Cu. Ft. XL1800 Microwave OvenaThis microwave looks good, but as a microwave that cannot generate microwave, it is useless.

I had used several microwave stoves before, some of them around $50, some around $100, but none of them stopped working within 3 yrs--except this expensive one. We called GE customer service, they told me the magnetron tube was broken, and they also told me this happens because, statistically, the failure rate of this magnetron tube is 3-4 percent. I don't need to be a magnetron-tube engineer to understand this rate. As a regular customer, I just know this failure rate is too high to be accepted.

If GE continues to make this kind of products, it will become another GM soon, and they can only depend on the government bailout to survive.

Bosch 500 Series : HMB5020 2.1 cu. ft. Built-in Microwave 1,200 Cooking Watts - WhiteAbout a month after purchasing it, the power modulator failed. Bosch pays for parts but not labor(a limited warranty). Seems too early a failure for a microwave at this price point. Have seen similar problems experienced by others.

Dacor Convection Microwave Review

Dacor Convection MicrowaveIn late September of 2007 I purchased a DCM24 Convection Microwave oven for $550 and had it built in which cost more than the DCM24.I had 5 problems with this appliance with the most serious being its durability: 1) Popcorn and other things cannot be cooked without inverting a glass dish on the turntable otherwise the microwave worked fine, but the same cannot be said for the convection oven;2) When cooking with convection it has a strong fan that circulates the heat around the oven, but it also circulates the smells from the oven all over the house; 3) It was a mess to clean the inside of the oven after cooking meat and other items (other than baking breads)with convection; 4) When cooking meat and casseroles, it took much longer than the cookbook predicted time, but I will say that it did a good job baking rolls and muffins; 5)MOST IMPORTANTLY when it was 22 months old it DIED: the only things that worked were the light and the fan.I called a Dacor appliance repairman and they took it in to the shop to diagnose the problem.Several days later I was told that it would cost $355 to have it repaired. I told them that they could keep it.I will purchase a Sharp microwave - I've had 2 of them that lasted for over 10 years, and an Oster toaster oven for a small convection oven.

Sharp SuperSteam Microwave Oven Review

Sharp SuperSteam Microwave OvenFirst off this is a VERY attractive appliance. The picture on the website does not do it justice, as weird as that may seem.It is substancial, well built, and looks and feels like something from a professional kitchen.Even though the measurements are documented, the oven just seems bigger.Personally, I think it's too big for a counter and would be best mounted into a unit. There could be some problems with mounting because you absolutely DO need the recommended space above, behind and to the sides - you can't get away with putting it up against anything if you plan on using the steam feature.

Good things:
The convention over works exactly as it should - I made a cake and it came out super-fluffy and perfectly cooked in and out, and very moist. Also made a sandwich and the bread was nice and crispy and the tomatoes inside were perfectly cooked.I made two chickens - one with the steam and one without. Both were good, but the one with the steam did get brown (lightly) and looked better, although they both tasted great and moist.

Microwave works fine.Downside is that there is no spinning wheel, so you have to stir and flip things around - AND - the microwave keeps stopping to tell you to do that.A bit annoying.

Although the job wheel feels very expensive and all the options are laid out well - I would prefer some buttons, espcially with the microwave. You can't just pop something in and start nuking.YOu have to press the microwave button and then use the wheel to go down one selection and then press enter and then use the wheel to spin to a time and then you can finally hit start. They should have moved that up one level to make it faster.

You get several well built pans and racks with this, which is very nice bonus.

The instructions are overwhelming, but when you actually go to use the oven, it makes sense.

Putting the water in for the steam function is very easy - a little box/cup thing comes out, you fill it and put it back in.done.

The auto sense microwave warming part works really well.I always want to doubt that it will work, but it actually does.

Overall it's a very intelligent unit, looks gorgeous and can completely replace your oven and microwave.Downside is that interface, which although it is slick, I don't much care for it and seems to require more thought than I care to put into microwaving something.

I would give it 4.5 stars because of that - but really it's a very nice oven.

One more thing - oddly enough, it does not put out excessive amounts of heat compared to your regular oven. You can open it during cooking and not get blasted by heat (although you should be careful). And cooking the chickens didn't heat up my whole kitchen or apartment like the oven usually does. The steam will kick up the humidity, but not that much.

Update - I wanted to add that I made a Flan recently and it came out perfectly.Usually I make it in a regular oven in a water bath.I skipped the water bath and just put it into the Sharp and chose convection oven - it came out perfectly cooked from edges to the middle!Anyone who has made a Flan will know how hard it is to get the center to cook correctly without overdoing the sides.I was pretty happy with this.

Unlike conventional steam, superheated steam helps brown and crisp foods on the outside, while adding moisture to the inside. When combined with convection cooking, the results are exceptional. Foods that are good for you look and taste better than you ever expected. Haier MWM10100GC Stainless 1.0-Cu.Ft. Microwave with Grill Review

Haier MWM10100GC Stainless 1.0-Cu.Ft. Microwave with GrillAbsolutely loved this product...for the first 50 days. Then it died.I called Haier to find a local service center and was told they don't do repairs on this.So if I send in the receipt, cut off the power cord, take a blow dryer and remove the label on the back, along with a check for $15 via registered mail, they will send a replacement in 3 weeks.

As if it wasn't bad enough having the unit not even last 60 days, now I have to jump through all these hoops. And pay for the pleasure of doing so.Oh, and wait 3 weeks for a replacement, which means I have to go out and buy something in the meantime anyway.

The microwave is great, when it works. But Haier has a lot to learn about standing behind its products.

KitchenAid : KBHS179SSS Microwave Review

KitchenAid : KBHS179SSS MicrowavePurchased in July 09, I was excited about some of the features of this microwave/convection oven and for the nice look of it above our matching regular oven. The microwave part does a good job heating evenly, popping popcorn, etc. I do not use a microwave for cooking (I believe it kills the nutrients in the food), so I love that this has a traditional convection cook setting. The microwave, for me, is primarily used for reheating the occasional leftovers, coffee, etc.I have used the 'crisp' feature several times and it is just ok.It takes a long time and is a little more hassle than just using the broiler or toaster since you have to preheat the crisping pan before you use the feature. You don't have to keep as close an eye on it as a broiler, though, since it shuts off after the programmed amount of time. The convection portion cooks nicely, although I have not used it as much as I'd like.I'm hoping to use it more to save energy by not having to heat the entire cavity of the regular oven. It's perfect for that small batch of cookies or side dish that cooks at a different temp than the rest of dinner.

Here are some of the drawbacks: the crisp element on the top of the microwave makes it much more difficult to clean if there were to be any splatters.Be sure to keep everything covered (sometimes difficult with kids around!).I was worried that the door opening forward would bother me, and it did take a few days - and one spilled cup of coffee - to get used to, but otherwise it has not bothered me.If you were shorter in stature or had weak arms (such as someone elderly that had bad shoulder joints or something), this might not be the best set up for you as pans do feel heavier and are more cumbersome coming out at shoulder height than they do from the regular oven. The other thing to keep in mind is that this requires 220 (like a regular oven), not a regular outlet. If you had a wall oven with a microwave above it, like we did, you will have to rewire.

Overall, I do like the look and the way it cooks, but I'm not sure if I'd spend the extra money and hassle or rewiring for this if I had to do it over again.

Sharp R-55TS Warm & Toasty Toaster/Microwave Review

Sharp R-55TS Warm & Toasty Toaster/MicrowaveRead these reviews carefully. The unhappy people are the people who bought this appliance without understanding what it is.

1) It's a small, low-power microwave. Small, low-powered microwaves don't do popcorn very well and some things just don't fit in there.

2) It's a large toaster oven, which means the elements are somewhat removed from the toast. If you want quick toast, get a toaster, where the elements are often less than an inch from the bread. But if you want to toast all sorts of lumpy things, including three or four slices of bread at a time, this'll do it. Typically, mine takes 4 1/2 minutes to toast regular bread.

3) It's a small oven. The oven works well, although again, it's small (see #1). Don't plan on cooking the Thanksgiving turkey in there.

If you understand these things, you'll like this appliance. I sure like mine. It's perfect for a bachelor!

Whirlpool Gold : GH7208XRS 2.0 cu. ft. Velos Speedcook Over the Range Microwave Oven - Stainless St Review

Whirlpool Gold : GH7208XRS 2.0 cu. ft. Velos Speedcook Over the Range Microwave Oven - Stainless StAfter considerable research online, we chosethis model of convection/microwave vent hood for our kitchen remodel.
WOW.
Let me reiterate.
WOW!
Being a 'car guy' automove similies seem to fit here, so I'll just say that this oven is like a balanced, blueprinted race motor in your kitchen. Sleek, powerful, responsive. We researched several vendors, and believe me, reviews and feedback are VERY important;and when ordered, the unit was delivered within 4 days. Packaging was secure and unit arrived without incident. Documentationwas excellent, installation was straightforward and took less time than expected. Performance has been flawless, just as advertised. The controls are well thought out and logically placed. We really appreciate the multiple levels of lighting and fan speeds, and the accessories packaged with the unit all work well. Large interior volume makes for LOTS of options, touch screen menus are simple to navigate. The styling is both contemporary
and reminiscent of streamline moderne esthetics. The unit is quite heavy and will require at least two strong people to install, and the price is rather hefty, also. We feel, however, that we have gotten great value with this unit.

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KEMS378SSS 27in Microwave Combination Wall Oven - Stainless Steel Review

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KEMS378SSS 27in Microwave Combination Wall Oven - Stainless SteelWe purchased this in March of 2009. It came with the following:Turntable, Convection grid, Crisper pan & handle, baking tray and steamer vessel.

There are so many features in here that I don't think I've used everything.
First, the Convection Microwave Oven:
De-Frost - I'm not a big menu planner so defrosting before I cook has to work quickly and efficiently for me. Apart from the usual cooking power options (High 100%, 90%, 80% etc) I can choose from Meats, Poultry, Fish, Bread, Juice & Manual. The microwave calculates the defrosting time based on the weight that I input. The manual has guidelines and pound to kilogram conversions.

Re-Heat - The options include Dinner Plate, Sauce, Soup, Pizza, Casserole, Beverage and Manual. The microwave bases the reheating on how many cups of sauce/soup/casserole/beverage is inputed and the number of slices of pizza. For example, I want to heat a cup of coffee. (Ghastly to some, I know, but I've done it) The microwave will ask you how many cups and whether you want it warm or hot. Simple & easy.

Manual Cooking - Just input the cooking power and the cooking time and you're all set!

Popcorn - Works like in other microwave ovens. Pop it based on the bag size.

Steam Cooking - The vessel comes in 3 parts: the cover, the food holder and the water container and they all fit together. I've steamed fresh vegetables, frozen vegetables and a lot of dim sum. They've all been delicious. The options are Potatoes, Fresh Vegetables, Frozen Vegetables,, Fish fillets, Shrimp & Manual. Again, the microwave calculates the cooking times on how many cups and how many ounces. The steaming vessel is dishwasher safe.

Soften/Melt - The options are Margarine, Ice Cream, Cream cheese and the softening/melting time is based on how many sticks and ounces you have. We love to bake and we have a fondness for ice cream cakes so this has been so useful.

Crisper Pan Frying - This is the one feature that I've only tried a couple of times. I still like to use the old frying pan, I'll admit. I followed the guide in the manual and made an omelet.

Timer - I use this mostly when I'm making pasta on the stove top. I can have this running while the oven is cooking something else.

The Microwave converts to a Convection oven/Easy Convect. I just put the grid on the turntable. I've done smaller amounts of cookies, some chicken, baked potatoes and french fries this way.

The bottom part of this oven is the Electric Convection Oven. In "traditional" oven mode I can choose from Bake, Broil & Bread Proof. In convection mode, there's Bake, Broil & Roast. Just to give me something else to think about there's also an EasyConvect option. There's also the Options key that does the fahreinheit & celsius conversion, turns the sound on/off/high/low, dehydrates, oven temperature calibration, Sabbath mode and turn the turntable on/off.

To clean, I turn on the Self Clean Mode, choose the number of hours I want and wipe down when it's cool. The manual advises against using commercial oven cleaners.

Again, so many features. The bottom line is I've been very happy with this oven. It replaced an ancient GE that came with our house. A lot of thought went into this purchase since we also had to hire someone to chip away at a brick wall that also housed a fireplace that we wanted to keep. I chose this oven because of the brand, the stainless steel, its size & features and because I wanted the microwave oven off my counter. Notice that I mention the manual quite a bit. It has a lot of information!

Highly recommended.

Electrolux : EI30MH55GS 30in Over-the-Range Microwave Oven - Stainless Steel Review

Electrolux : EI30MH55GS 30in Over-the-Range Microwave Oven - Stainless SteelThe gun in our 1400 watt GE over-the-range microwave gave out after just 3 1/2 years of use. SO, we decided to shell out the big bucks to buy this Electrolux. (It matches our new Electrolux range, which we actually love).

The problem is that there is no turn table in this unit and the "cook-2-perfection technology" is, in a word, *PITIFUL*! The way it cooks reminds me of the $100 units you give your kids to take to college.

Breakfast sandwiches (from the freezer) burn in the center and are still cold on at least one edge. Two hot dogs for one minute wrapped in a paper towel were nearly burnt on one end and just warm on the other.

I tried the "sensor cook" for a mini-bag of popcorn and it shut off after about 10 kernels popped! The "sensor cook" settings appear to be trainable so I think I can add more (or less) time, but it's not clear to me from the manual if the microwave remembers those, or if I have to add more time every time I use the "sensor cook" buttons. (If it can't remember the tweaks, what good is it?)

Electrolux must use this manual for a different microwave oven too, because it constantly references the turntable that I only wish it had.

We're *extremely* disappointed and I wish I could send it back. I guess I'll have to go find a 3rd party turntable, or cook everything on 60% power. Oh, and just so you know, "Electrolux is not responsible for any damage to the oven when accessories are used". Does that mean that aturntable invalidates the "FULL ONE YEAR WARRANTY"?

Note: This was purchased locally and with installation, not from Amazon. If you're handy, and have help, installation is typical of over-the-range microwaves. ["Made in USA from domestic and imported parts". January 2008?]

UPDATE: 1/28/2009
I called Electrolux to complain about how badly this microwave worked. (Invoking the one year warranty). They attempted to tell me that I needed to use the rack for cooking popcorn. (I could hear them quickly flipping through the user's manual). After I pointed out to them that page 17 of their manual specifically says "do not use the rack unless you are cooking multiple dishes" they sent a repair man.

Well, there are two rotating discs under the floor of the microwave, (supposedly to scatter the beam) and they were both rotating. It boiled a cup of water within 3 minutes. The company rep said that I might have better luck if I elevated food a couple of inches off of the bottom. But, the overall conclusion was: Works as expected. (Gee, thanks).

I tried a micro-go-round. It helped, a little. Very annoying to use however.

Finally, after 3 short months, sick of my food ending up both burned and frozen at the same time, I JUNKED the Electrolux and bought another GE. (Pssst - the repair guy said not to buy anything but GE! We also bought the extended warranty - not that it would have helped with the Electrolux!)

My conclusion: Electrolux microwaves are junk - a total waste of money. And, Electrolux was ABSOLUTELY NO HELP in resolving this problem. (Do you think I'll ever buy anything from them again?)

Stainless Steel Kenmore 1.1 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave & Pizza OvenWe have had this product for several months now and love it. Absolutley no problems with the microwave and it gets a lot of use. We have three kids 14, 11, and 9 and they use the popcorn settings all the time. We have used the drawer for pizza, baking cookies, mozzerella sticks and hot wings and all cooked fabulously. The pull out tray in the oven is super easy to keep clean. The finish is wearing a little but for the amount of use it gets I find it acceptable.

Sharp 1-1/2-Cubic-Foot 900-Watt Convection Microwaves Review

Sharp 1-1/2-Cubic-Foot 900-Watt Convection MicrowavesWow, after reading the other reviews I had to throw my 2 cents in.It's big all right but that's the only point I have in agreement with the other reviewers.

I've had the R-930CS for almost a year.It really lives up to what Sharp says it does.It bakes, broils and microwaves -- all well!I use it to cook meat and it's done a great job on steaks, fresh sausage and chicken.

It also has a nifty feature called Sensor Cook, which is intelligent microwaving. It works for a number of foods including vegetables, frozen entrees and hot dogs.I use it for hot dogs, actually frozen hot dogs.I had no idea how long to cook a frozen hot dog.Not a problem.Slap a couple on a plate, hit Sensor Cook - Hot Dog and the oven does the rest. They come out perfect.

Would I get this oven if I just needed a microwave?Of course not.( I'm not even sure what you use a 1.5 cubic foot microwave for.)But if you need a microwave and a regular oven all in a countertop package, the R-930CS is great.

The cleanup of this oven is easy too.None of the horror stories from the early generation microwave convection combos. This one is stainless steel on the inside. No protruding parts. It (so far) cleans up with a damp paper towels or sometimes with a bit of dishwashing liquid.

Sanyo EM-C6786V 1-Cubic-Foot Microwave Oven with Convection and Grill Review

Sanyo EM-C6786V 1-Cubic-Foot Microwave Oven with Convection and GrillI recently received my new Sanyo microwave and I could not wait to post a review on it!This is a truly sleek, good looking appliance that has finally broken the mold with the innovative design of its controls.Bye, bye to the traditional and confusing button keypads of other microwave ovens...I won't miss you. :)

As another reviewer already said, there is a scroll wheel (very much like an iPod control) on the inside. You have to open the door to access the scroll wheel, but this is hardly a problem. You simply open the door, put in your plate of food, set the desired function using the scroll wheel, shut the door and hit the Start/+1 minute button. If you have to interrupt cooking, press the Stop/Clear key once to stop the oven, pressing it twice will stop the oven and clear the settings.EASY!

I set the clock on this machine in less than 10 seconds using the scroll wheel. That has never happened to me before!I know it seems trivial, but with every microwave I have ever owned, I had to pull out the instruction manual to remind myself what combination of buttons I had to press JUST TO SET THE TIME.

Incidentally, the pictures of the oven provided by Amazon are not wholly accurate because it is not plugged in.The green tinted clock/timer is on the inside of the oven, but there is a clear, rectangular view finder on the door that allows the time to be clearly displayed while the door is closed. The pictures here make it look like a simple black tinted door with a few buttons on the side. Some might think you have to open the door in order to see the clock, but that is definitely not the case.

My father, who is physically handicaped (he has only the thumb and forefinger on his right hand and has severe vision impairment), loves this oven already because it is so simple to operate. He also likes the fact there is no door handle to pull at, just a simple press of a button, and the door will open. This, again, may seem trivial but try opening a microwave with semi-greasy hands while rushing around in the kitchen. You can open this baby with a knuckle or even the flat part of the back of your hand. When you combine this with the ease of the scroll wheel, this oven may be a wonderful option for those who have severe arthritis too.Just remember to read the instruction manual thoroughly to become acquainted with the functions and you will be scrolling your way through your favorite recipes in no time!

The unit offers four combination cooking settings: combination one (microwave and convection) for frozen entrees and casseroles, combination two (microwave and grill) for steaks, combination three (grill and microwave) for chicken, and combination four (grill and convection) for hamburgers.

I am so excited to start experimenting with this oven!I have only tried the convection option so far (apart from the microwave) and I was very pleased with the results. It took less than 10 minutes to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. The cherry on the top of all this was Amazon's excellent price. When I compared this model to others with similar features, the prices were REALLY out there!

I just hope the thrilled-about-this-purchase euphoria lasts a long, long time! :)

Panasonic NN-C994S Genius Prestige 1-1/2-Cubic-Foot 1100-Watt Convection Microwave Oven, Stainless Review

Panasonic NN-C994S Genius Prestige 1-1/2-Cubic-Foot 1100-Watt Convection Microwave Oven, StainlessI bought this oven one week ago to replace a Sharp model R-930CS convection microwave, which I had been using for almost 2 years. The black display on the Sharp was hard to read and the microwave didn't work as well as the $79 one I use at work.It was really a leap of faith to buy another convection microwave expecting different results but I found an outstanding deal on Ebay so I took the plunge.

So far this oven has met all of my expectations. It heats my frozen entrees completely and it does a great job popping popcorn. It even has 3 different levels for popping different sized bags. The sensor reheat works well too.

I've even had a couple of happy surprises.First of all I noticed this oven is really nice looking. Not only are the buttons easier to read than the touchpad I used before but they have a stylish high quality appearance.I also like the ceramic turntable more than the metal one I had before. It may not contain large spills as well but I'm guessing it'll be easier to clean.

The biggest surprise for me has been how intuitive/user-friendly the controls have been. After selecting the function I want to use (e.g. microwave, convection, sensor cook, etc.), the next appropriate button or knob lights up so there's no need to read the text message to know which step to take next.I've barely had to refer to the instruction manual at all.

I haven't had a chance to use the convection oven yet so I'll have to come back and update my review when I do.I guess I'm just not as wary about the convection functions because all of the problems I had with my previous oven were related to the microwave functions.Of course reliability will take much longer to determine too.But so far so good!

Update after 3 months - This is definately the right oven for me.I've pretty much used all of its features now and I can't think of any negatives. The convection oven works great and the ceramic tray is a breeze to wash.I haven't regretted my decision for a moment.
