Sharp R-1520LK Over The Range Microwave Review

We had the lower model of R-1520 and we really liked it. Because of an accident we had to replace it (I didn't do it. I wasn't even home). We have a certain look in our kitchen and we like a microwave that has the control panel hidden. (Most controls look cheap and flimsy.) Although this model is not the highest rated out there it still does everything we need it to do. All I can see that it's missing is a center rack so you can place two items inside at once. I installed it by myself and found the instructions to be easy to understand and the installation simple. It is a bit heavy so you may need some help lifting it. My doctor says I should regain full use of my legs when my back is out of traction. (Just kidding.) If you are looking for a good-looking, well built, easy to operate, nice featured, easy to install microwave I say this is a good choice.

Maytag : Over-The-Range Microwave Oven Review

I purchased this microwave just over a month ago from one of the larger home improvement stores.My condo is smallish, so I decided to go with this less expensive model.It worked fine the first few times I used it, but after running it for more than 4 minutes at a time, it would shut off completely.The display would not even light up.The power would eventually return after about a half hour or so.

As it is still covered under the manufacturer's warranty, I was able to arrange for free service through Maytag's website.The technician just left and told me that the problem was "poor design."Apparently, there isn't enough cooling for some of the internal parts when the microwave is being run for more than a few minutes.To remedy the situation, he suggested that whenever I had the oven on for an "extended" amount of time, I should turn the vent fan on high so that the internal parts can remain cool.The technician said that this was a problem with many brands of over the range microwaves in this price range including LG, Kenmore, etc.He did say that GE was likely the best brand to buy.

As I spent a significant amount of money and effort between the initial purchase and having it installed, I will keep the oven and just remember to run it with the vent fan on.It works fine otherwise.

Update: 1 Year Later

After the initial service call, the original problem of the microwave overheating and shutting off after about 4 minutes of use continued regardless of whether or not the fan was turned on.

Just before the 1 year warranty expired, I decided to try and have it serviced one more time.The service person determined that the problem was improper installation.I helped him pull down the microwave and then he was able to move the fan housing cover into the proper position for external venting, the instructions of which were actually printed on a sticker right next to the housing cover.Go figure!

I'm upgrading my rating on this because the microwave oven has been working perfectly since then.I can recommend it without reservation, but just make sure it's installed correctly.

We bought a combo set:microwave, stove top, oven, and refrigerator.The stove and oven work fine, but the microwave went out only after a little over a year of usage.We payed a couple hundred dollars for the microwave and it went out!!I've bought cheap microwaves that do the job almost as good that have lasted more than 8 years!!

On another note I would not buy their refrigerator freezer side by side because the refrigerator part does not keep your food cold.If you have a "good" refrigerator and you turn up the fridge part it normally makes your water and milk turn to icicles.But this one did not.I turned up both of them and the freezer was really cold, but the fridge part did not seem colder, very bad!

I bought this on Amazon to replace a Sharp microwave, which has served me well for several years. Based on the price, compared to other with similar features, this unit is the least expensive. I was also impressed with the comprehensive directions for installation. I am closer to being Tim (the toolman) Taylor than a professional at home improvements, so I followed the instructions with precision. The results were outstanding. Not only does it look GREAT where my old stove hood used to be, it passed my "popcorn" test, of which, I am particular. No scotching, full bag, satisfying and an extra plus, while I am beaming over my accomplishment, the beep sounds indicating the popcorn was finished, the display read "Enjoy". Am I ever! I have in my "digital locker",courtesy of Amazon, my own .pdf manual. What a great investment in money for the microwave and the time for installation of the unit.

Solidly built, looks great, came with lightbulbs for range light INSTALLED! No cons, but could have used some help with installing, as the manual recommends 2 people install, but I did manage nicely by myself. I would suggest an additional set of hands for final insertion, once preparations are complete. I have only owned this for a day, but, I wanted to tell my tale to give others an incentive, if they are on the edge, to jump at this opprotunity to snazz up the kitchen in a big way and for little out of pocket.

Panasonic wants like $300 for a comparable unit. I am pleased to pay 1/2 as much and get a quality unit such as this. You can even get this for $25 off before January 31st, free shipping (this dude is HEAVY!) and no tax, do the math, it is a steal!

I bought this for my new kitchen renovation.I was getting rid of the huge vent above the stove and wanted a nice place for a microwave that would vent.You can use it to vent up and out, or it can recycle the air and let it flow back in the room.I'm using it for the latter.The fan is very loud, I find, but not so bad that I wouldn't use it.The microwave is nice and has a lot of nice features on it like quick start (also known as Add 30 Seconds).I would recommend it.You probably won't find a better one for a price like this.

LG Over The Range Warming Lamp Microwaves Review

I was tentative at first with the idea of locating a microwave over a cooktop but wanted to give it a try and gain the additional counter space in the kitchen. I am glad I went with an over the cooktop model as it is very convenient to use even while operating the cooktop at the same time.

Having the controls along the bottom makes it easy to see which button I am pushing and to monitor the cooking time. The microwave has been great for heating casserole dishes as it can easily accommodate a large rectangular glass dish which is very rare. It also move the dish back and forth which makes for unusually even cooking, even better than a standard microwave with a carousel for rotating the food.

The under the unit light works well and the fan with its 3 speeds is also both efficient and not terribly loud. What is noisy is the magnetron tube operation which vibrates a shield which is held on only with tape. I had a technician come out and that is when I saw how the poor design of the shielding caused it to vibrate and rattle quite loudly at times. It is surprising that an otherwise excellent design should suffer from this one oversight on the part of the LG engineers.

The stainless finish is also very good and easier to keep clean than my other stainless appliances. With the microwave in a high visibility location it is nice that it is so easy to keep looking like new even with heavy use.

Overall I would buy this unit again as the benefits of the controls at the bottom and the dual action food movement mechanism compensate for the noisy operation of the unit. There are no other microwave ovens from other manufacturers that have the combination of features present in this LG. The over the counter units from GE and others look like very little thought was put into their design and they are hasty conversions of counter top models.

Sharp R-1514 1-1/2-Cubic-Foot 1000-Watt Over-the-Range Microwave, Stainless Review

It may look pretty, but as an over the range microwave oven it provides nothing but headaches. Even a modest amount of heat from the cook top below causes the microwave oven's pushbutton door latch to deform (melt?) because Sharp chose to save money with plastic rather than metal interior parts. Thus, either the door won't close or one has to pry the latch open each time. The service technician who replaced the assembly (twice) said he had performed almost a dozen similar replacements in the recent past.

My advice, buy it only if you never plan to use the cook top below.

KitchenAid Architect Series II KHMS2050SSS 2.0 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven - Stainless St Review

Quite frankly - the best microwave I've ever used. Read several reviews around the net, and decided to go for it despite its fairly high price. So glad I did.First, it's flat-out great looking in my newly remodeled kitchen.More importantly, it seems to be more powerful (or at least more efficient) than any other micro I've ever used.It's simple to use - you can punch in time and power settings just like any other micro, but its preset and sensing options so far seem to be extremely accurate. That's quite a "bonus," as I really did not expect those to be much more than gimmicky, but they've proved me very wrong.Note - many micros in this price-range have convection (or more aptly "convection lite") built in; this one does not, but for me it wasn't an issue.

One thing to watch for is your vendor actually having it in stock.I actually tried to purchase this from 3 different vendors who advertised it as "in stock"; however, all 3 had to get it from the manufacturer.Not sure if this is industry-wide, or if I just had a little Schleprock-syndrome.On the first 2, I canceled the order once I got delivery estimates; on the 3rd one, I acquiesced and just waited the extra week.If you need it immediately, beware; if you can wait a week or two, settle in and wait - it's worth the wait.

UPDATE: After one year, it's still performing fine. Note however, this is one of the "leakiest" microwaves I've owned (from an RF perspective). When this microwave is running, it effectively kills any WiFi 802.11 b/g/n signal anywhere around. My profession involves wireless networking, and microwaves are notoriously bad about this, but I have to admit, this one (at least the one I have) is one of the most disruptive I've experienced - you absolutely cannot keep an 802.11 b/g/n connection with this microwave running ... good thing it's quick and doesn't run long ;-).(In case you care, I've had multiple routers/wireless APs and multiple wireless clients with the same results, so the "issue" seems to be with the microwave versus my computer equipment.)

About 6 months ago, we upgraded from an ancient GE spacemaker - might have been 10 years old.So anything was going to be better.I wanted one that had a revolving turntable to spin the food and I wanted a stronger microwave.This one delivers. But Please - take my advice and don't try all the silly "auto sensor" features.Use manual choices and you can't go wrong. If you are upgrading from a lower watt microwave, be sure to adjust and lower your "usual" cook times.I burned popcorn and Weight Watcher Smart Ones meals at first so I speak from experience.My husband has yet to understand this concept and still burns food!

I have the black color instead of the bisque which I think looks nicer and is relatively easy to keep clean.However, I wish I had stuck with bisque color instead of getting black finish for our stove and dishwasher though because keeping those clean is MUCH MORE DIFFICULT.

I like that there is two optional racks for those holiday family meals when we're heating up multiple large items.

Sharp R-1210 1-1/2-Cubic-Foot 1100-Watt Over-the-Counter Microwave, Black Review

this is the second sharp microwave i've had and with both, the digital display failed after brief episodes without power.unfortunately, the failed part costs as much as a new microwave.the first microwave we threw out.the second is still under warranty and will be fixed.sharp's authorized service center advised me that this 'happens a lot with sharps' and told me that they currently had seven more in the shop for the same problem.in fact, the part is on back order and i'm waiting for it before my oven can be serviced!sharp denies a problem!i find it hard to believe that they are unaware of huge orders for this 'board' that controls the digital display.my advise is to stay away from sharp microwaves until sharp fixes this obvious problem.

LG Over The Range Microwaves Review

I recently upgraded from a GE Spacemaker XL with the purchase of an LG over-the-range microwave - 2 cubic ft., black, item number: LMV208SB.

the Good
- attractive to look at, matches my kitchen decor perfectly
- large LCD display is easy to see and read
- includes many advanced and basic settings
- has an "EZ-ON" feature which allows you to start cooking instantly with the press of this button
- has dedicated buttons for popcorn and hot dogs
- door opens on its own, there isn't another button that you need to press like on other microwaves for the door
- the price was exceptional and with Amazn's free shipping I defy anyone to find another retailer that can match their price
- comes with a 1-year warranty and if LG is anything like GE (I have no idea) they won't bat an eye if you call them for service even when the appliance is a few years old
- More/Less Arrows allow you to subtract or add time while the microwave is in operation
- tells you when to turn over food, when you're defrosting
- extra large cooking capacity, and with the wrack it nearly doubles in size
- 1100 watts of power

the Bad
- it is incredibly heavy and bulky (nearly 70 pounds), have at least 2 strong men who can lift it when you install it
- the door makes a loud clunking sound when it closes
- there isn't a "quick cook" button like GE had, the closest this has is EZ-On, however that automatically defaults to 30 seconds
- the unit doesn't constantly keep beeping to remind you that your food is ready
- sometimes foods tend to get slightly soggy when taken off the "hold warm" setting
- the rotation cannot be turned off if it is set to keep warm
- it's doing a number on my plastic dishes that are microwave safe, they're slightly bending, however since they're so inexpensive I do not mind too much

the Ugly
- it is a beast to clean/keep clean
- it is a fingerprint/dust magnet
- picks up streaks very quickly
- it can pick up scratches very, very easily

the Exceptional
- the Soften button allows you to soften butter, ice-cream, cream cheese and even frozen juice
- with the cooking sensors the microwave cooks everything to the perfect temp and then shuts off automatically, this is great for TV dinners
- with the Reheat button you can quickly heat up anything and the microwave will bring it to the perfect temp without any effort on your part
- dedicated defrost settings for vegetables, beef and chicken
- with the Hold Warm button I can now leave whatever I was cooking in it for up to 90 minutes and it will stay nice and hot, this'll save on power because I won't have to turn on the oven for this
- able to automatically turn on the Hold Warm feature to follow another cooking function
- EZ-On feature can be extended in 30 minute increments just by pressing it
- Custom Cook can be programmed to cook any single time you use the most often (my only complaint about this is you still need to press the Start/Enter button)

Things to Remember
- never use a brillo pad or abrasive sponge on this as it could scratch very easily
- although I don't know why you would want to, never turn the microwave oven on if nothing is inside it
- sometimes it makes slight crackling sounds as it's cooking, these are normal

If anyone has any suggestions on how to keep this looking perfect and nice and shiny and glossy please let me know. Right now I am using Mr. Clean Power Wipes on the outside, then I gently buff it with a dry paper towel to buff and shine it. But it's not very practical because it's a lot of work and lint, dust and fingerprints still seem to find a way all over the microwave no matter what I do or don't do.

**Update** I recently started using Fantastic Clean & Shine spray with a microfiber towel (on the outside door and on the inside-after I clean the inside with a sponge, as well) and it works very well. So far, this is the best product that I have found to keep it looking shiny and new (the outside mostly). Keep in mind there are different varieties of Fantastic Cleaner, you're going to want to get "Fantastic Clean & Shine" spray.

Overall this is a very useful item and one of the most used new appliances that I have purchased for my kitchen in ages.
