G.E. PVM2070SMSS Profile Spacemaker 2.0 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven Review

We got this as part of the Profile set to match our range/oven.It has some great features, like a push display, and a boost feature to REALLY get some air OUT!Love that.But when I went to push the button for the vent, the whole button panel behind the stainless steel moved back- I broke something.The repair guy just left after telling me I had broken the processor assembly which costs $500+ to replace, and then there's labor.So we're looking at $750 to get a new one?I don't think so.I'll just get a different stainless steel microwave with better reviews!

GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 White Microwave Oven Review

We bought this model less than 3 years ago. It worked wonderfully and I'll have a very hard time finding one I like more, but it stopped heating food altogether, started making scary noises and we saw sparks... the manufacturer's warranty only provides a new magnetron tube but I have to pay for labor & related parts. I don't really want their new tube if it's only going to last 3 years, so I'm shopping again!

GE Profile : JES2251SJ 2.2 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave with Child Lockout and Extra Large Capacity Review

I am very disappointed at the poor reliability of this unit.Ours is less than a year old and has failed--now, when attempting to cook, the unit shuts off before the end of the programmed time.Even though the light comes on and the turntable turns, the unit does not heat food.Like others, I purchased this unit based on the recommendation in Consumer Reports; this recommendation didn't pan out.I tried to schedule warranty service and GE is making us wait a week to schedule and their frustrating telephone system does not provide information on where I can take it for service for faster turnaround (and didn't put me in touch with a live representative).

When the microwave oven worked, it worked fine.We replaced a Sharp unit with this one; though this unit has the advantage of a larger capacity, its controls are less intuitive.

Based on poor reliability and poor service, we're certainly not going to buy another GE microwave.We've had good success with GE refrigerators in the past; this is very disappointing.A quick search on the web now reveals that GE microwave ovens are not reliable--many others appear to have similar problems with the magnetrons.

Perhaps this is one reason why GE is looking to sell its appliance business...

Sharp R-1514 1-1/2-Cubic-Foot 1000-Watt Over-the-Range Microwave, Stainless Review

It may look pretty, but as an over the range microwave oven it provides nothing but headaches. Even a modest amount of heat from the cook top below causes the microwave oven's pushbutton door latch to deform (melt?) because Sharp chose to save money with plastic rather than metal interior parts. Thus, either the door won't close or one has to pry the latch open each time. The service technician who replaced the assembly (twice) said he had performed almost a dozen similar replacements in the recent past.

My advice, buy it only if you never plan to use the cook top below.

GE Profile Spacemaker Series : JVM1790SK 1.7 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven - Stainless Stee Review

WE've had this oven/microwave for 4 months now and absolutely love it.We got it so that we could have a second oven without doing a major renovation.So far it's worked well as a microwave and great as an oven.I'll assess them seperatly.
--AS a microwave, it's a little slower cooking than others we have had, but heats evenly, has a turntable, and rack. We really love the dial control...kind of like an ipod, simple and efficient.

--As an 2nd oven it is perfect for us and we actually use it frequently as the primary oven because 1) It heats up faster and cooks faster 2) It is more energy efficient with a smaller space to heat adn 3) it vents outside so it doesn't heat up the house in the summer at all.

As for the price, it is expensive, but was a much cheaper way to get a second oven for us and we are very happy with it.
