I bought these tongs a couple of years ago specifically for travel after a transatlantic flight.I had dropped my book, water bottle, pillow or whatever and could not bend to retrieve them. I pack the tongs in my purse/carry-on, put them in the seatback pocket, and extend for use when necessary. Of course they work equally well on vehicles such as tour buses or in any similar confined spaces.
