Pie Crust Shield Review

I have several of these and use them with every pie I bake (several a month).These were a gift for my grown son who actually requested them on his Christmas wish list since he loves to bake too.They are wonderful and so much easier to use than trying to shape foil around the edge of a pie before baking.Big hint: Spray the inside of the Pie Shield with Pam or a similar non-stick cooking spray before using it.Makes removal for browning part way through the baking process much easier.

Norpro Apple Mate 3 Review

I'm sorry to say that the Applemate 3 was a great disappointment.I ordered it because it's supposed to be the most versatile of the apple peelers -- ostensibly it can do any combination of peeling, coring, and paring -- and I have to admit that the unit looks quite handsome and is sturdily made.But it simply did not work for me.I wanted something that would peel and core apples, and I couldn't make the Applemate peel efficiently, try as I did to adjust the blade.I experimented on four apples (two fairly hard, two soft), and each time the blade would begin peeling and then would just slide off and merely scrape the skin.I've seen apple peelers work before, and maybe it's something I was doing wrong; all I know is, this model behaved like a nifty-looking invention that isn't quite perfected yet.

Progressive International Pineapple Corer Review

I slice quite a bit of pineapple and was looking for a helpful tool. This didn't work.The metal blade is too flimsy for the heavy duty job of slicing through pineapple. With quite a bit of pressure and elbow grease, it barely cut through.You have to cut the pineapple manually to almost a perfect "square" before even using the tool, quite a bit of wasted fruit. The core section usually yields core in your final slice and cuts away good fruit. Messy and time consuming.Extremely dissapointing.Not even worth committing precious drawer space for.I've now since seen it at my local grocery store and Target.

Norpro 9 Inch Pie Crust Shield Review

This shield is 9 1/4 inches in diameter. I have two pans from different manufacturers, and while they're called 9" pans, they're both actually 9 3/8 inches in diameter when you include the lip. Add to that the fact that most crusts will extend beyond the edge of the lip a little, and this thing isn't nearly big enough. There's no way it can cover the edge of a pie crust, at least with my 9" pie pans. I guess I should have measured my pie pans before purchasing, but I assumed the manufacturer of this item would have some idea of the actual dimensions of pie pans and would size their product accordingly.
I'll try a shield advertised as 10" next.

It is great if you want to buy 1 product to suit small medium and large sized crusts.You just overlap 4 or 5 of the strips to match your needs.The material is flimsier than I was expecting, a thick aluminum I think, so they do require careful usage and storage.

Progressive International GMMC-68 Microwavable S'Mores Maker Review

I ordered this for my three kids. We love roasting smores on a campfire but do not get to do that too often. When I saw the low Amazon price, I had my doubts. I was still so excited to try this out. It came in and the kids and I tried it for dessert. It was just as easy as promised. It took only 30 seconds to cook the marshmallows evenly and perfectly. The chocolate doesn't really start melting until you take it out of the microwave which is good. It is less messy that way.
I could not recommend this enough. We use ours very regularly. I have already bought three more as Christmas gifts. Wonderful, simple, inexpensive. What more could you ask for? Go get your own!!
