This bacon cooker really deserves a Wow! My only gripe with it so far is that it will only cook 6 slices at a time, I wish it were bigger around so it could do 12. But my flat bacon tray could only hold 6 slices at a time, so this seems the standard size. I was able to do a whole package of sliced bacon with no mess at all, and it was easy to pour the grease out into a jar for the trash afterwards. I did need a paper towel to put the bacon on when I removed it from the cooker, but the slices were not nearly as greasy as normal, and they cooked much faster, too, so I was delighted with my purchase. It came apart for cleaning easily, and washed up nicely. I hope it lasts well, that is my only concern--it doesn't look real sturdy, but it didn't give me a bit of trouble in my first use. I bought the twin pack, thinking of giving the second one as a gift, but I may just keep it on hand for my family, in case I want to do a lot at once!

This recent purchase is a replacement for a Wave Bacon cooker I've had for several years.Eventually the little fingers that hold the bacon will snap off.The replacement looks the same HOWEVER this newest "wave" warps.This warping is mentioned in the accompanying paperwork.The warping can have a negative impact if you are cooking multiple slices of bacon and they have a high fat content.Causing the collected fat to run over in the microwave or spill when removing from the microwave.

Great concept, the recent changes are extremely aggravating.

Bacon Wave Review

I like this cooker, however, you have to fidget with the cook times and positioning of the bacon for it to work well. I cook a lot of bacon every so often for job breakfast potlucks. It advertises that you can cook 14 pieces at a time. I find that cooking 14 slices takes twice as long as the instructions indicate and the slices are so close together that they tend to stick together as they cook. I like crispy bacon so instead of 14 minutes, I had to cook the bacon for at least 20-25 minutes to get the bacon crispy. I finally decided to cut back and I only put 7-8 slices in the cooker with a space between each slice to cut down on the sticking together. So, now I cook the bacon for about 13 minutes and it seems to work really well.

Nordic Ware Microwave Bacon Meat Rack Review

While the NORDIC WARE MICROWAVE BACON MEAT RACK does the job, it does have a couple of major drawbacks for people like me who like their bacon crispy.It cooks the bacon well and the grease drains into the channels below.However, if you cook your bacon crispy (longer cooking times), some of the earlier-rendered bacon fat cooks into the channels.I have soaked and scrubbed with various tools, but I cannot get all of that hard, cooked-on grease out of those skinny channels and angles.Furthermore, if you cook several slices crispy, the bacon creates more grease than can be contained in the channels, and (defeating the purpose of this rack) the bacon ends up sitting in a pool of grease anyway.

I am currently looking into other types of microwave bacon cookers, but in the meantime, I have taken to using a Chinet paper plate with several paper towels.It soaks up all the grease and cleanup is as easy as throwing everything in the trash afterward.

The egg cup could use a better closure system, as the egg yolks, even when pierced prior to cooking, tend to explode, and the lid tends to open just enough to shoot egg white goo around the microwave. Progressive International Microwavable Bacon Cooker Review

The photo of the bacon cooker is a bit deceptive - in real life it is not quite long enough for a slice ofraw bacon. The bacon cooks well in the microwave; then the bacon fits as is shown in the photo. I always cook the bacon on a paper towel which prevents the fat from dripping into the microwave. After thoroughly mopping up the bacon fat, the cooker cleans up well in the dishwasher.

Fox Run Microwave Bacon Rack Review

I had another microwave bacon rack, the same size as this one.I replaced it with this one after my other one cracked on the side, and it was stained.

I like the size of this one, but it doesn't seem as sturdy as my other one was.If you have to cook more than one batch of bacon with this, I noticed that the grooves start to melt.It stains very easily too.

I don't expect it to last as long as my other one did, which was for many, many years, but this one is ok, for the price I paid for it.

I would never go back to cooking bacon on the stove again.This way is much less messy.

We tried them several times and found food sticks to them, they burn the edges, and the middle is not crips as it should be. Used this product for the first time yesterday.Cooked 12 pieces of bacon beautifully.After breakfast, saw that we still had 4 pieces left over in the package, so put those in to cook (after draining the grease from the first batch).Three minutes into the cooking process, noticed a funny smell.Opened the microwave and the product had melted -- hole in the bottom, so grease is all over the microwave (luckily, we have a glass tray in the microwave, so it captured most of it).Went to remove the pieces of bacon from the rack and off came a string of plastic with one of the pieces where it had melted to the bacon!

Nordic Ware Microwave Sloped Bacon Tray (Medium) Review

I bought this bacon tray specifically to fit in my tiny microwave oven.As a user of other bacon trays throughout the years I am big fan of the way this tray and others like it cook the bacon and allow the grease to drain off.I am similarly pleased with the way this tray performs in that respect. However, that being said, the size of the tray is the biggest drawback.Regular pieces of bacon hang over the side (although they generally shrink through the cooking process).I recommend centercut bacon for this tray as it is generally a shorter cut of pork and fits more easily on the tray.The maximum amount of bacon you will be able to cook at a time is 6 pieces and that is really pushing it 4 pieces is better.This tray is suitable for small microwave ovens and small output.

Nordic Ware Microwave Bacon Tray & Food Defroster Review

I've given this a good rating because I remember using my mom's eons ago, and I was happy to see that I could order one for myself decades later!But I goofed up.I didn't take into consideration the DIAGONAL measurement of this item, and it's too big to TURN in my microwave.So... make sure YOUR microwave has at least 16 inches of clearance inside if you want your bacon to spin.Duh.

UPDATE, ONE YEAR LATER: I did buy a smaller version of this tray, but I decided I like cooking bacon in the oven way better than the 'wave, even though it takes more time.Get a baking sheet with a cooling rack that fits inside (very cheap at a restaurant supply) and lay the bacon strips on top.Put it into a cold oven and set for 400 degrees.It takes about 15-20 minutes, but the results are crispier, flatter, and yummier (especially if you brush the strips with maple syrup the last few minutes of cooking).All the drippings are caught in the tray, which you can pour into a container pretty easily.Pork fat rules!

Nordic Ware Microwave 2 Sided Round Bacon and Meat Grill Review

I absolutely hate washing greasy pans, so being a bacon-aholic, I had to find an easier way to get crispy bacon on the table ASAP or sooner.I've been using a microwave safe plate, and zapping the bacon for about 5 ½ minutes on 70% power, but couldn't resist trying out this product, just because.

Comparative results:

Bacon a la plate:
1.Put a paper towel on the plate
2.Put the Bacon on the paper towel
3.Put another paper towel on top
4.Zap at 70% power for 5 1/2 minutes
5.Remove top paper towel
6.Put bacon in another plate - ready to eat
7.Discard greasy bottom paper towel
8.Allow plate to cool, add dishwashing liquid and water for a few minutes
9.Wash as usual

Bacon a la gadget
1.Put bacon on grooved side of gadget
2.Put a paper towel on top (I hate cleaning splatters off microwaves too)
3.Zap at 70% power for 7 minutes
4.Zap again depending how it comes out
5.Remove top paper towel
6.Put bacon in another plate - ready to eat
7.Reserve gunky stuff at bottom of gadget if you're going to use it later
8.Apply generous quantities of dishwashing liquid and hot water, leave gadget to soak
9.Wash off whatever comes off, then leave to soak longer
10.Rinse, and soak again
11.Realize that sticky stuff isn't coming off the sides of the ridges or the inside rim of the gadget
12.Apply more detergent and use brute force with a brush to the problem areas
13.Remember to brush both sides of each ridge
14.Wash again

Summary:

For bacon without all the mess
Just use the microwave
There's no real need to use a pan
Unless it's fat you crave

All you need's a dinner plate
And two thick Bounty sheets
The rendered fat helps it to cook
Providing crispy treats

This gadget works, make no mistake

As I rapidly roar toward middle-age, I have not been paying as much attention to my diet as I should.
